Welcome & Let’s Eat!

I’m not sure if I consider myself someone who LOVES FOOD. There are foods that I love, sure, and I do enjoy trying local cuisine when I travel. The joke always was that we travel to eat when we lived in Germany. It isn’t as though you couldn’t find any good food where we lived, but they definitely liked to “germanize” the ethnic foods and tame the spice level. It was actually amazing when we found a Thai place in Wiesbaden where “scharf” (spicy) really meant SPICY.

I also don’t have a degree in nutrition nor am I a registered dietician (although, if I could afford another degree, I’d probably go back and get that). What I do have is a passion for nutrition, food systems, and agricultural practices. My dissertation on nutrition and ADHD covered research on the gut microbiome, grocery shopping experiences for neurodivergent people, food labels, soil health, culture of eating, ethics in agriculture, and even the language of food (why do we say beef and not cow, yet we say chicken for chicken?!)

I’d like to focus on something food and nutrition-related each week and even throw in some of my favorite ways to eat the foods I discuss. These posts will not be about promoting diets (I’m not a proponent of them, as they pertain to rigid ways of eating for the purposes of weight loss and other trends) nor should they be considered medical advice for anyone – although I may, from time to time, throw in tip here and there.

If at least one person finds this information helpful in eating healthier and more sustainably, then I would be grateful.

Be well and bon appetit!
