Food as nourishment is many different things. As we eat healthy foods, we provide our bodies with compounds that help us sustain a healthy life, but when we cook together and eat together, we also gain the benefits of community and cooperation. When we select recipes from other countries, we nourish our openness and cultural awareness.
Most diets that are out there today are generally exclusionary, faddish, and unsustainable so I will, therefor, not promote them. I am far more interested in eating ethically and sustainably, while using the latest in nutrition science. My favourite slogans are “eat the rainbow” and “don’t be afraid of flavour”. Some of the healthiest foods are the brightly colored fruits and vegetables, as well as the many spices found around the world.
I challenge you to try a new food, a new dish, or eat an old food in a new and interesting way once a week. Or maybe try the recipes that accompany my Food & Nutrition blog posts!
